ANTHONY ‘ZIN’ MILLS COMMEMORATIVE
ALL REAL RADIO OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
ZIN, known as Wali Aqueel in the socially- responsible community and Anthony Mills to family, was a native of the Denver, CO area and built for over 20 years as a fixture in Houston’s socially conscious radio, music, revolutionary activist, and art scene. He is remembered as the pioneer of Mahogany Cafe’s “House of Words” in historic Third Ward Houston, Texas and a founding member of the poetic hip-hop group, the NOMADS.
In 2005, after developing and co-hosting Pacifica radio KPFT 90.1’s Damage Control, ZIN established his own radio program, S.O.S Radio. Mixed with positive and uplifting music and commentary, S.O.S Radio provided a platform for community information and entertainment.
As a member of the activist community, ZIN worked with displaced New Orleans residents after Hurricane Katrina, organizing Operation Clean Hood to instill community pride, encouraging healthy lifestyles through bicycling, and gardening. ZIN will continue to stand out in the community as a passionate, persistent professional and a conscious artist, community servant, writer, and emcee.
ZIN’s work in music brought collaborations with local and national artists such as Talib Kweli, The Black Eyed Peas, Public Enemy, Stephen Marley, Dead Prez, Sunni Patterson, Jill Scott, and Erykah Badu.
Through this love for community, ZIN went on to found AllRealRadio.com with Deniz Yxayotzin Lopez. All Real Radio was created with the sole purpose of utilizing radio and live video streaming technology to inform, educate, and entertain a worldwide body of socially responsible individuals from diverse ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic brackets. This station is the embodiment & accumulation of ZIN’s work and legacy. More than a radio slot, All Real Radio offers 24/7 streaming of content designed to enlighten, inform, highlight the African diaspora, and be positive.
With the slogan “We Make The World Better”, ZIN continued to promote artists and play artful and socially conscious soul, variety, hip hop and R&B grassroots music from across the globe. He also made a concerted effort to highlight local talent in the Houston area. All Real Radio, and by extension, ZIN, has created a global forum that is devoted to informing the community about issues directly affecting it with featured commentator and Final Call journalist Brother Jesse Muhammad of the Nation of Islam. All Real Radio is music, information, and news that uplifts the community with health, self- sustainability practices, and wellness features.
Through his legacy and the seeds he planted, his community has collectively become roots for Third Ward, Houston and is spreading worldwide via All Real Radio.
